The International Guitar Festival Tübingen 2025 opens with the concert “Encuentro -
zwei Horizonte”, a musical dialogue between two worlds. At the center are two
composers whose lives and works uniquely connect European and Latin American
musical traditions.
Concierto para Guitarra y Orquesta - Antonio Lauro (1917-1986)
Antonio Lauro, born in 1917 in Ciudad Bolívar (Venezuela), is considered one of the
most important composers for classical guitar in Latin America. He studied in Caracas
with Vicente Emilio Sojo and Raúl Borges and, with his famous Valses Venezolanos,
shaped the global guitar repertoire. His Concierto para Guitarra y Orquesta, composed in
1956, is one of his few orchestral works. It combines elements of Venezuelan folklore
with classical form and carries Lauro's unmistakable melodic signature.
Concierto de las Alpujarras (World Premiere) - Francisco Rodrigo (1938- )
Francisco Rodrigo Arto, born in 1938 in Valtierra, Navarra (Spain), studied in Granada
and from 1964 lived for many years in Caracas, Venezuela, where he taught at the
Conservatorio José Ángel Lamas. His music unites the sound of Spain with Latin
American expression. Today he once again lives in his native Navarra.
The Concierto de las Alpujarras is dedicated to guitarist Nirse González, who will
premiere it this evening as soloist. In this music, Mediterranean and tropical
soundscapes merge - a bridge between past and present. For the festival, it is a great
honor to present this work for the very first time.
An evening that connects musical horizons - full of exchange, emotion, and diversity.
The perfect opening for a festival that celebrates music as a bridge between cultures.

The IGT Competition is the international contest of the Tübingen Guitar Festival - a meeting
place for young guitarists from all over the world. Here they share their passion for music,
showcase their skills, and inspire both the audience and the jury.
As every year, the program includes compulsory pieces. In 2025, these come from Antonio
Lauro, one of the most renowned composers for classical guitar in Latin America. Thanks to
the generous support of Caroni Music, the sheet music for these works is available free of
charge to all interested musicians.
This year, the competition will take place in the freshly renovated premises of the Tübingen
Music School - an inspiring setting offering the best conditions for focused playing and
special musical experiences.
The winners will not only receive prizes, but also the opportunity to perform for the festival
audience the following year at the Laureates in Concert.
And best of all: you can be there in person! Experience how young talents take the stage and
perhaps already meet the guitar stars of tomorrow.
Time: Depending on the number of finalists, we will adjust the starting time
and announce it in good time.

An evening full of emotion, nostalgia, and musical intimacy: The chamber concert “Boleros”
takes the audience into the sensual world of Latin American love songs - a place where music
and emotion are inseparably intertwined.
At the heart of the program is the Bolero - an elegant, often bittersweet musical form that
transforms heartbeats into music, captures longing in melody, and tells stories of love in all its
facets: of first encounters, closeness and desire, pain and farewell. The Bolero is not just a
song - it is a feeling, carried by gentle harmonies and sincere words.
Four outstanding musicians bring this music to life with dedication and skill:
Miguel Siso - Venezuelan Cuatro
Eleazar Rodríguez - Vocals
Manuel Sánchez - Guitar & Double Bass
Sergio Fernández - Percussion
Together, they take the audience on a musical journey through the history and beauty of the
Bolero - from its origins in the Caribbean and Latin America to its celebrated moments on the
world's stages. Their interpretations blend the richness of tradition with their own personal
touch and a tangible love for this music.
Every note, every pause speaks of love - in its most beautiful, musical form.
An evening for listening, feeling, and remembering - for all who wish to be touched by the
poetry of music and the warmth of the heart.
