Internationales Gitarrenfestival Tübingen 2018

We look forward to welcoming you to the Internationalen Gitarrenfestival Tübingen again in 2018! In autumn, the guitar will be heard again in our university city - with outstanding international performers. We will appreciate different nuances and styles from the hand of excellent interpreters.

The “Concierto del Sur” by Manuel M. Ponce will be performed by Cecilio Perera, one of the most important Mexican guitarists of his generation, accompanied by the Residenz Orchester Baden-Württemberg under the direction of Sven Gnass.

For first time, the Czech guitarist Pavel Steidl will perform in Tübingen. Mr. Steidl concerts and his exceptional style are always a unique experience. In addition, the contemporary music of the local composers Malte Giesen and Fredrik Zeller as well as the Mexican composer Andrés Nuño de Buen will sound in the strings of the Aleph Gitarrenquartett.

The competition for young guitarists is a central part of the festival, this year the contest will be in homage to the great Mexican composer Manuel M. Ponce (1882 - 1948), in his 70th death anniversary. The aim of this competition is to provide a stage for new artists, as part of that, the winners of the Lauro Guitar Competition 2017 will share with you a stellar concert.

Klang in Bewegung – Musik Atelier will also be contributing a short film featuring music by Ponce and images by Mexican visual artist Raúl Méndez Estrada.

We are convinced that the festival will soon become a reference in the German cultural scene!

Welcome!

Ana Morella Mejías
